The world's most inexpensive Michelin-starred dim sum — handmade har gow, char siu buns, and Hong Kong classics.
Tim Ho Wan is the legendary Hong Kong dim sum restaurant that earned a Michelin star as a humble hole-in-the-wall, proving that world-class food does not require a luxury setting. Founded by Chef Mak Kwai Pui, the brand is celebrated for its handmade dim sum — the baked char siu buns with their sweet, crispy exterior and tender pork filling have become an icon of affordable excellence. The Singapore outlets serve the full menu of Hong Kong favourites, including translucent har gow, silky cheong fun, and steamed pork ribs with black bean. Each item is made fresh, maintaining the standards that earned the original branch its Michelin star. The no-reservation policy and quick table turnover mean the wait is rarely long, and the food arrives fast. For Michelin-recognised dim sum that does not demand a Michelin-level bill, Tim Ho Wan is a must for any dim sum lover. It is proof that craft, care, and conviction can turn a simple meal into something extraordinary.Based on 2235 Google reviews

Glad they are back after a month of renovations, so of course I had to drop by and see what’s new. The place feels familiar but refreshed. They’ve also rolled out a year-end get-together menu that mixes classic Cantonese bites with a few modern twists. The Black Truffle Foie Gras Dumplings were surprisingly balanced — rich but not too heavy, with that truffle aroma that makes it feel a bit special. The Golden Mango Cheese Crab Roll caught me off guard — sweet, savoury, crispy, and actually works. The Black Truffle Bacon Fried Rice? Definitely one of those “I could eat this whole bowl alone” dishes — smoky, umami, and super comforting. Ended the meal with the Caramelised Double Milk Skin Pudding, which had that soft, almost custardy texture with a hint of burnt sugar. Simple but satisfying. Tried a couple of new items too — the Steamed Chicken Rice with Scallion Ginger reminded me of home-cooked food, while the Fried Shrimp Dumplings with Avocado Mousse were crispy and light with a nice creamy contrast. Glad this Westgate spot is open again —

The place is usually packed, but the service is efficient and well organized, so the wait is manageable. There’s a good variety of food, and everything is nicely prepared. The char siu chee cheong fun and carrot cake stand out for their great texture and flavor—highly recommend.

Food quality was okay, but the taste wasn’t as good as it used to be. During weekday brunch hours around 11am, the place was already quite packed. Manpower seemed sufficient, but at times our table requests were overlooked, and the food …
