Worst Toys “R” Us experience ever. The staff were unfriendly and visibly annoyed. It’s unbelievable that a kids’ toy store doesn’t offer gift wrapping - they only provide wrapping paper. When I asked one of the female Malay staff for some tape, she said there was “no wrapping in the store” and refused. I took the wrapping paper, went outside to wrap it myself, then came back in to ask a male Chinese staff member for a small piece of tape, since I saw him using some. Both he and another female Malay staff again refused, saying it was “company policy.” At this point it was ridiculous - I just needed to secure a gift I’d already wrapped outside. The male staff even raised his voice and insisted it was policy. When I asked to see the policy, he couldn’t produce anything and started desperately checking the promotional standees at the counter. Unable to find anything, he called the manager. Credit where it’s due - the Malay male manager was polite, professional, and immediately gave me a piece of tape. I asked about this so-called policy, and unsurprisingly, there was no written policy. Meaning the staff lied. If this “no tape, no wrapping” rule is real, Toys “R” Us should put it up in the store - because it sounds absolutely absurd. Saving tape isn’t going to save the brand. In the end, the manager gave me the tape and said he would coach the staff but honestly, the staff should rethink working in customer service. Zero common sense, terrible attitudes, and not exactly the vibe for a kids’ store.
